For some reason Jon Stewart and the other late night comedy show hosts decided they needed to kinda scab by working during the writer's strike but didn't want to fully cross that picket line so they refused to write anything for their shows and changed the names of the shows.

So it was just entirely improv comedy and it was notoriously not very funny because the only reason that show format works is the pre-written material from a whole team of writers creates the impression of being very witty.

Anyway if that's how bad a human could do... Raw GPT output that can't even be edited first is gonna be so fucking disasterous.

Is it bad that I'm kind of eager for this to happen because I want to see the crash and burn fallout so badly

Trust me I'd rather the guild get good wages than have my previously described terrible but amusing situation happen

But it would be really funny and maybe when the regular people actually get to see chatgpt try to do writing it will kill any hype momentum it ever had for good

So long as there is profit to be made from cost cutting, the process will be refined until it does work. It is very wishful thinking to believe that the bottomless pit of the entertainment industry will simply give up when every resource they have is yelling at them to pursue it full tilt.

It might fail today, but it will win tomorrow if a new agreement isn't brokered with the writers guild, and the fight for labor rights in the era of neural network AI is only just beginning.

one of the WGA's key demands was "you can't use AI to write shows, nor can you use our material for AI training" and the response from the studios was "how about instead of that we have 'meetings to discuss technology'"
