daily knowledge: it has been officially announced that tumblr live is shutting down on january 24th. for anyone wondering why it took so long, the CEO of Automattic (current owner of Tumblr), Matt Mullenweg, said on the site last november that it was basically only kept up out of contractual obligation.

If they own Tumblr, what did they sign a contract with to make Tumblr Live successful? Who's the shadowy overlord here?
I had the same question. With Whom did you sign a contract that messed up the top of your app for a year?
From the "Live is dead" announcement, it sounds like they contracted with Meet Me, which is a dating app conglomerate. They took Meet Me's live video product and rebranded it as Tumblr Live.
