Micromusician, Customer Service

PFP by @abramek - abramek dot art

This keeps being rewritten from a "read about me justifying my weird purchase" post. I really want it to be "this is why I'm starting to be more productive" post.

The past 5 and a half years have not been as productive as I would have wanted. Though I found ways to make music here and there with apps in my phone, I really couldn't keep up with us having the kids and doing what needs to be done around the house and for work, and still have time and space to make something worthy of more than a "here's this little thing I did" post.

As 2012 was my most productive time, I managed to find a computer that lets me take 2012 out of a bottle, with some modern conveniences added- the huge one being that I can bring it up from sleep mode and launch the software I want in a few seconds. The only issue so far seems to be that it's making me return to the days when everything I did, work or play, was done at the same desk, so that other people in my life can't tell the difference between when I'm working or playing, or when it's safe to interrupt.

That can be worked out later.

I also have been using point and shoot cameras instead of my phone's when possible, because I find the phone's camera app takes too long to launch when I need it, and a cheap tablet for reading and media so that I'm only looking at my phone if it's actual messages or for social. More on that another time, maybe.

  • Don't just be a Patreon competitor... Be an OnlyFans competitor...
  • Paying $5 let's you Slime another user. A green png of nickelodeon slime is placed on top of their avatar for a few days.
  • Beloved banner ads that are weird and become community memes. These should be for weird small businesses and for 18+ users probably sex toy boutiques lbr
  • Sponsored Vacation Days. Users can donate $400 to sponsor giving their favorite staff member a day off. Said user is celebrated publicly for their generosity and we all thank them for donating a day off.
  • The Money Hole. Users can "purchase" randomly chosen "fortunes" "curses" and "blessings" (written by cohost's writer community) with the statement that the more money you throw into the Money Hole the more powerful the fortune, curse, or blessing will be. This functions as a way for users to make large one time contributions to Cohost while still "making a purchase" so it's not a "donation"
  • If you mail $20 cash to staff you receive a monthly Donation Item which your avatar can wear to look like an anime catgirl
  • It now costs $3 to make a post about computers. The angry tech worker crowd will shell out the bucks to continue complaining about computers.
  • We do not implement comment likes but we do implement paying to put a little trophy on comments which puts them at the top of the comments section.
  • Friends of Eggbug Society. Group that actively organized fundraisers for Cohost like a library Friends group.
  • Users can pay to "win the argument" or "win the discourse." For $15 a green banner appears on a comment in a thread which says "THIS USER HAS WON THE ARGUMENT" and that comment can no longer be replied to, ensuring the winner has the final word.
  • Tumblr lets you pay to give another user crabs. Cohost lets you pay to give another user a yeast infection
  • Multi-Level Marketing

@chunter

I could imagine a commercial social letting you pay to lock threads.

Tumblr missed their chance to compete with OnlyFans and it's a shame.

A lot of ugly things went down in the world of commercial social media since I made my first post. I don't know that this alternative is going to have the staying power I hope for, but cohost seems to be holding up better than many alternatives.

My homepage is really a WordPress site, but as long as it remains stable I think I will keep it that way for now. Or at least, I don't think it's useful to fill this place up with my discography content.

At the time I'm writing this, my preference is still microblogging, my Mastodon is @chunter@mstdn.social

I know people find Mastodon confusing, but this is because I think most people overthink it and either don't remember or weren't around in the times when there were no discovery algorithms and you had to actively search for the content you want to look at. Cohost is built that way, too: if you feel like you keep being shown the same things over and over, it's time to tap the magnifying glass or look up some hashtags.

It is becoming easier for me to create music again and I'm going to start preparing releases like I used to. If I get the notion, I may write about it here. Otherwise, my insta and twitter are @chunter16 and my TikTok is @chunter203908 but I really hope I can tug people over to using better stuff, like, here. I may use this like I used to use SoundCloud before it went to its own corporate hell... we'll see.
