every one of my projects has that one "schrödinger's assigned gender" character. I don't know what gender they were presumed to be at birth, and in some way I kind of don't want to know.
for various reasons, like, what if I like interpreting them in all the ways? what if other people actually do interpret their genders differently from me? I understand that traditional notions of representation kinda demand that you decide what they are, but idk there's also something undeniably enjoyable about the character's assigned gender just being secondary enough to the character that they could be whatever the current imaginer decides at the current point in time.
it's like the character gets instantiated in every interpretation of them, and that includes my own interpretations at different times, in different offshoot stories. and that's something I really like about fiction, to play around in ways that real life doesn't quite give us the luxury to. but am I just waffling on about what is ultimately a personal preference? is there room for this type of speculative rep? also is it pertinent that I'm a nonbinary writer who also usually identifies as trans?
