so much here to enjoy. the movie is dripping with porno chic, especially in the soundtrack with the KILLER guitar. lots of incredible lighting and hair/makeup throughout. lots of interesting elements to chew on (like the repeated use of Star Wars, conversations about money, etc) while you watch. looked up more about Schrader coming from a Calvinist community from Grand Rapids and yeah… i reckon that’s why you had that fire to make this movie so early in your career. hyped up on that The Sunset Tree era John Darnielle energy!!
it’s kind of strange how much you forget the movie is, at it’s core, an action/chase movie until the very end (the action Hits) because so much of the film feels more like a PS2-era Silent Hill where your only path forward is to jump down more and more holes. it is truly The Taken (2008) Made 29 Years Before Taken (2008) but the special set of skills is just having a lot of money
