yeah, it’s the worst of the trilogy by far. so much of what makes the -qatsis good is how visually striking they are, and this is either tech-demo level graphics of 2002 or it has a fucked up filter over it.
but! it is nu-metal. it is 50% dreamcast cutscene. it is half connor o’mallory b-roll background imagery. it is the video equivalent of using every pre-set on the keyboard. there is a sequence where it flashes brands at you and then a woman seductively eats a chicken sandwich and then there are flames and religious/political symbols flashing. the world was just like this after 9/11 and they were reacting to it in the moment. sometimes you live through a collective trauma and then your art sucks because of it, i’ve seen enough pandemic projects to know now
