i am unbelievably honored to share that last night, my TTRPG going rogue 2e won the CRIT Awards 2023 Best GMless Game of the Year!

to celebrate, riley rethal—creator of the base game galactic 2e—and i are offering a 3-game bundle that includes:

  • going rogue 2e, my Star Wars: Rogue One & Andor inspired expansion & total conversion for galactic 2e
  • galactic 2e, the mainline Star Wars-inspired base game by riley rethal
  • the scum & villains expansion, my Mandalorian & other space criminal-inspired expansion for galactic 2e

you can get all 3 for $20. that's 33% off the combined price of all 3 games!

📝 press, 🎙️ podcasts, and reviewers: if you want to cover or play this now award-winning game, contact me for a press kit & free copy!

you can also listen to it played on A More Civilized Age, find out more about the game below the break, and read a long list of thank yous for those who made winning this award possible, beginning with contributors riley rethal and satah.

what is going rogue 2e?

going rogue was originally developed as an expansion for riley rethal’s Star Wars-inspired Belonging Outside Belonging system, galactic 2e. this second edition of going rogue expands it to a 34-page game that can be played as a one-shot or over the course of a limited-run campaign. while the base game is built to tell stories of charming, larger-than-life heroes, going rogue 2e—taking its inspiration from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story—uses galactic 2e’s mechanical foundation to instead weave narratives about troubled martyrs mired in messy, ethically gray conflicts who must face the possibility of making the ultimate sacrifice.

a whole collection of thank yous

  • thank you to riley rethal, whose game galactic 2e, its game jam, and the gaming group that it brought together were fundamental to inspiring me to release my first game— the first edition of going rogue. galactic 2e is an incredible, delightful game that has changed my life in more ways than one.
  • thank you to satah [itch] [cohost]. satah's design contributions to the second edition were transformative. i still think THE BOND pillar is the most interesting piece of design in 2e & it was their brilliant design thinking that proposed making that relationship a part of the universe. their polish & critical eye is all over the game & the improvements made for 2e.
  • thank you to avery alder & benjamin rosenbaum, who made Dreak Askew / Dream Apart & in so doing established the belonging outside belonging engine that drives gr2e. nothing has changed my approach to games quite like this engine—i feel so lucky to work with it.
  • thank you to jeff stormer of the Party of One podcast for taking a chance featuring the first edition of going rogue on Party of One, when it was just a little submission to the galactic 2e game jam, and for immediately making me feel so welcome in TTRPGs. i wouldn't still be doing this if it wasn’t for jeff.
  • thank you to thanks also to the crew of A More Civilized Age! it was unbelievably fun to play gr2e on the podcast & to get to see what these four extremely critical thinkers about Star Wars media & narrative were able to do with the system. it also really helped put it in front of folks who would appreciate it & that made a world of difference for me as a creator.
  • thank you to satah, rhiannon [itch] [https://cohost], and brianna for being the absolute best galactic 2e game group i could ask for. the 150,000 words of fiction we wrote about our characters will forever be a testament to how much you can love a game world. they're all brilliant designers in their own right—check them out!
  • thank you to ren & satah for being there for me through all the ups & downs, decisions & deadlines, and much much more that make up releasing a game like this. i am unbelievably lucky to have partners like you, and wouldn't have been able to do a tenth of it without both of you.
  • thank you to caleb zane huett [cohost] for kindly volunteering to receive the award for me & deliver my awards show acceptance speech on my behalf despite me having approximately 0 idea how to write an award acceptance speech—and for texting me updates the entire time, i was vibrating.
  • finally thank you to everyone who has streamed the game, recorded the game, talked about the game, told me how much you like the game, voted for the game, and just, well—played the game! it takes every bit of all of that to get here. im so honored & so grateful. thank you!!!
