Always appreciate a Jude the Obsure mention lol. I got to thinking of the things i read about relationship anarchy and fucking your friends. its still a little heady for me. Relating to others, being in community, monogamy, But inferno is a good way to put things.

it's a testament to your work. i've been curious about japanese literature outside of the anime-ish lightnovel scene for a while and this is such a valuable window into that world. maybe it'll give me the motivation to take learning japanese seriously

what we really want from each other is someone to say, “Hey, are you okay?”
It’s a simple phrase that is devoid of love and even sympathy, but these four words can remind us we are still in the inferno of the living with other people.

thats... yeah, real.
thanks for this review, this book sounds amazing and i'll be sure to lodge it somewhere high on my to-read list

that part is amusing to me because i've sorta changed the actual line from japanese by accident but ended up keeping it. the line is actually more banal ("It's fine"), but i think the nuance is the same: a line that doesn't actually mean much but reminds us we are in reality right now.
