Original post / Play game

I made a post recently about making a raycaster engine on Arduboy, but I hadn't made anything with it yet. Now I have!

The Arduboy community is hosting a game jam for "Meme" games, and I decided to make the game that arguably popularized the entire genre of "walking around in spooky places (and collecting things)". I don't really think I'll win; most of the submissions that have won in the previous weeks have been actual funny memes. But this is the game my heart called out for, even after spending hours planning a funny game as a replacement for unfunny slenderman.

This demake was a labor of love! I may make a post later detailing some of the work involved in getting this to run on Arduboy, though most of it is tied up in the raycaster library, which I already described in the post above.

If you try it, let me know what you think!

in reply to @haloopdy's post:

this is really cool! the most i've gotten is seven pages so if there's a cool ending i haven't seen it yet.

it's hard to see things unless they are large or up close, and all the duplicated tree sprites and wall textures blend into each other and make the curious landmarks stand out. that plus the chaotic slenderman appearances make it easy to panic and get lost and go in circles. excellent mood setting. good luck in the jam!

thank you!

yeah... it's really hard to make 3d stuff with a super low res monochrome screen, especially when i'm trying to apply a fog to everything lol. i hope it wasn't too awful trying to navigate the 1 bit mess on screen!

thank you so much for trying it, i really appreciate it. as for the 7 pages thing, i wanted to mimic the original slender, where he gets really aggressive at the end so it's harder to beat. gosh i hope it's at least somewhat beatable... i don't mean for it to be played more than 2 or 3 times.
