i firmly believe all beat saber mappers are sadists. currently my options seem to be being somewhat bored with official songs on expert(+) or dying to normal custom tracks with seemingly nothing in-between.

right?? I feel the same way! I just enjoy playing, I'm not good at it, and so many of the custom maps are just way out of my league (and will probably never be within reach)
really sucks because it's hard enough to find maps with songs that I like!
i thought i was doing pretty well when i was playing on console but now that i'm on pc with access to custom maps i've been humbled lmao.
i guess playing in no fail mode is an option but honestly that kinda takes the fun out of it for me. i want stakes, but i'd love it if they were reasonable sdlkjfhg
yeah, I ended up just disabling the directional hits (so I can hit them however I want), else the game is completely unplayable for me
the custom map difficulty overton window has slid so far to UltraHellKillYouPerishDieSuffer that a 2023 custom Normal would have been a 2021 custom Expert++, it's wild
yeah it's a pretty rough departure from what the base game considers hard lol, kinda unfortunate.
ive found a decent number of Playable ones in the curator recommended maps on beastsaber https://bsaber.com/songs/curated/?recommended=true but the main problem i have is that i only give a shit about playing a song if i am familiar with it at all and 95% of what people make maps for is Rhythm Game Music™️
yeah it's frustrating that a lot of the maps I want to play are exclusively ex+. instead I've been working my way through some of the "best of" playlists, slowly improving and working my way up through higher NPS tracks. here are some: https://beatsaver.com/playlists/3966 https://bsaber.com/maps-for-new-players/ https://beatsaver.com/playlists/4137 https://beatsaver.com/playlists/4138 https://beatsaver.com/playlists/4139 https://beatsaver.com/playlists/11584 https://beatsaver.com/playlists/6769
This is the curse of all Rhythm games. The top 1% of players are the loudest and the ones with the skills to make charts, and all they want is more and more difficult. Meanwhile the players not in the top 1% find nothing new that they can play and move on.
yeah for sure, although I think it's especially egregious with beat saber where a lot of the time the thing I need to improve is how quickly I can physically move my arms vs just hand-eye coordination lol
I'm still trying but it's slower and a bit more frustrating for me to learn. still a good workout though.
we could do some map recommends if yr interested, but like, whats some maps you're comfortable playing right now for reference
