an image of spongebob that has your IP address on it

a real implementation of one of the most bizarre meme formats I have ever seen

what?

  • this is an image generated on the fly by another server at the time it's loaded
  • logging is disabled for the path of this image, i really do not want to know who or where you are
  • it's literally just an image tag, nothing special
  • location is pulled from a local copy of geolite2
  • as a bonus feature, if the location it pulls up is particularly long, it'll overflow out of the image
  • if you reload it the image might be different

as all of these crimeposts are, this is really cool! but, and feel free to prove my fears wrong, but do you think we should be able to do things like this? it feels like this could be used by bad actors, but im not a tech person so please reassure me if thats not the case😅

Back in the phpbb days we were on a board that allowed you to just punch in a url for your avatar. so i hosted a bunch of different ones and had a php randomizer so you'd get a different one every time.

and then, since i was a mod and could see everybody's IP, i added some code to deliver only goatse or whatever to people i hated
