i finally got around to digging up an old macbook so i could pull the first set of photos off the Lytro. there's some Fucked Up shit going on with this thing.
my current working theory is that:
- their refocusing stuff does work, but it also introduces some very interesting artefacts due to the microlenses(? maybe)
- the sensor is so small that there isn't any real depth of field to speak of
- they wanted to exaggerate the effect for that instagram and facebook clout so they added fake dof options using the (very janky) depth maps their sensor generates too
- have i mentioned the depth maps are janky
- why it look like that
