I was reading about this season's storm names and it turns out that Storm Ciarán was named after Ciarán Fearon, an engineer in Northern Ireland's Department for Infrastructure.
The pronunciation of Ciarán is helpfully given as keer-on but does Fearon rhyme with it? Is it feer-on or is it a frustrating feer-uhn? Help a guy out.
So, I don't know any fearons, but a quick google suggests that the pronunciation is either like farron or ferron, with the on as a short swallowed 'uhn' sound (the kind you'd use a schwa for in ipa). So not really rhyming. Additionally, to be even more annoying, while keer-on is a totally acceptable pronunciation, I'd say it more like keer-awhn myself, like to rhyme with lawn almost, and that definitely doesn't rhyme with fearon
