The whole "comma-la" pronunciation really only works if you pronounce comma in a certain way. YouGov's UK poll wrote "karm-ala (like calm)" which is maybe more helpful?
Anyway I am astonished how many people, particularly journalists and members of her own party, who are just consistently pronouncing it wrong. Where are the standards?
Also probably not helping is that in Marvel stuff Kamala Khan is pronounced differently.
