I don't think they're bad, at least not inherently so.
Like any tool, the devil's in how you use it. I prefer a nice book in my hand compared to an e-reader, but I most certainly would not like to bang out calculations by hand if the possibility of using simulation exists.
It's saddening to see how digitalization in general affects things, though. Media preservation, machine memorization learning, digital copyright law, and automation often negatively impacting the working population. Lord knows I probably wouldn't be interested in half of the things I am if the web didn't exist, but it seems one signs away any claims to privacy when partaking in this huge can-and-string phone experiment.
I recall reading The Time Traveller by H.G. Wells. I don't think the future lies in an idyllic, childlike state, but neither do I believe in the utopia posited by advocates for automation.
Like most things, it's likely to be both perfectly mundane and dumbfounding.
