my old high school just became the first charter school in AZ to unionize! BASIS has been a news darling for 20+ years because of their students' test scores but as the article says, the teachers are paid less than the public school system (and AZ's teachers are already paid historically low, with Red for Ed strikes in 2018 after being ranked 50th in the nation)

"WE DID IT! WE HAVE A MAJORITY!

The American Arbitration Association (AAA) has CERTIFIED that we have the MAJORITY necessary for us to win our Union! While authorization cards are still being counted, the Neutrals have determined at this point that we have enough votes to make this call as a direct result of our pink envelope campaign where some previously uncounted cards were validated to further prove our majority. This means Production Department on commercials will be voluntarily recognized as a NEW labor union under the IATSE umbrella by our employers per a neutrality agreement between IATSE and the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP).

PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS, Line Producers, Production Supervisors, Assistant Production Supervisor (Commercial Coordinators), and Bidding Producers on commercials are now part of IATSE and now have the opportunity to collectively bargain for a contract that will guarantee us the better, safer working conditions, and opportunities for the better future that we’ve all been fighting for!

We couldn’t be more proud of this community, to all our friends and families, union kin, and colleagues at production companies who have shown us such incredible support throughout this LONG campaign. We especially want to thank all of our incredible VOLUNTEERS who donated their incredible skills and sooooo much time, who have helped bring this historic movement to fruition, we could not have done this without you—

We look forward to working with our employers and colleagues at the AICP as we collectively bargain in good faith to bring about an equitable future that further solidifies this relationship. This is just the beginning! There is a lot of work still to do! Remember - A better future is possible for EVERYONE. Including entry-level positions.
