In a big win for GEO 3550, an effort by the University of Michigan to have their strike declared illegal was quashed in court yesterday, meaning the strike will continue until further notice.
According to MLive, judge Carol Kuhnke, who previously denied the university's emergency injunction, found as follows:
“While I find that the students in particular are harmed by the strike, I don’t find that it meets the standard of irreparable harm that would cause the court to enjoin or stop the strike.”
The union has several further actions planned this week after winning the ruling. Virtual picketing is available for supporters of the strike from 10 AM to 1 PM EST today and from 1 PM to 3 PM EST on Thursday. On Saturday, undergraduates and other allies of the strike are also putting on a rally and concert, which will double as support for the Stop Cop City movement in Atlanta.
