In some cute and brief local union news, Cityside, the nonprofit which runs Bay Area publications Berkeleyside and Oaklandside, has quickly and voluntarily recognized its union.
Cityside Guild, which is affiliated with the Communication Workers of America, was announced on Wednesday (April 12), and has the support of all 14 workers between both publications. Beyond principle, Cityside Guild's intent is mostly to end the current at-will employment status of Cityside workers, and to formalize already existing benefit structures within the nonprofit.
