Workers at the flagship Barnes & Noble in Union Square, New York City, went public with their attempt to unionize this week after Barnes & Noble refused to voluntarily recognize the store's union. The store–which is the third Barnes & Noble in the country to attempt unionization–has now filed for a union election.
Gothamist reports that the bargaining unit for the store "include 100 booksellers, baristas, cashiers and other non-supervisory employees." Workers at the store allege constant short-staffing, inadequate training, and full-time work on part-time pay and benefits. These were also a concern at the Hadley, Massachusetts Barnes & Noble which announced it was unionizing two weeks ago.
