Sometime in the near future, Middletown, Connecticut's Wesleyan University will be the site of at least one union election, as Wesleyan Dining Workers United (affiliated with UNITE HERE Local 217) are today seeking to unionize workers at two on-campus restaurants: Red and Black Cafe and WesWings.

While about half of Wesleyan's dining staff is already unionized, the half which is not (predominantly student workers) have almost nonexistent benefits and much worse pay. According to Wesley Dining Workers United, the pay discrepancy between already-unionized and non-union workers is anywhere from $14 to $17/hr. In a letter of support for the new union, already-unionized workers at both restaurants go into further detail about their benefits and condemn union busting practices by the restaurants.

A date for any union election is, of course, to be determined–but I would strongly suspect any union elections here are formalities.
