Some folks seem to be moving to their own personal websites/neocities type stuff.

What do you put on there? Does it cost money? Why do you have one? :O -💜

We might make one. Host info about our system, links to where to find us, and stuff to store a shareable thing for our hobbies - conlanging, minipainting, worldbuilding :O

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

Its been ages since we've coded and I'm feeling very overwhelmed. Anyone have any good starting points for making a landing page or designing a website layout or something? @.@; -💜

Answering in a mish-mashed order:

  • Neocities has a free tier. I don't remember what its limitations are really.
  • You get more control on your own site. You an put stuff up that doesn't fit into anticipated boxes. Stuff is only as ephemeral as you want to make it.
  • We're starting with using it as a link hub, but also putting up headmates' bios. Structuring them for the post format was a struggle, but we have ideas for how to lay out a website that we think will be pretty intuitive. Probably also gonna link to friends' and acquaintances' sites too.

adding some extra info!
on Neocities's free tier, you get a gigabyte of storage space and 200 gigs of max bandwidth, restrictions on what filetypes you can upload, you only get the one site (and any subpages of course, but those are still linked to the one site), and you're stuck with the default URL (which is just your account name I believe, so username dot neocities dot org for example)
their paid plan, which is $5 USD a month, gives you 50 gigs storage, 3,000 gigs bandwidth, no filetype restrictions, the ability to add a custom domain to your sites, and having multiple sites under one account
there's other things, of course, but that's the main stuff that comes to mind
you can also go to https://neocities.org/supporter to see the full list of stuff!
