at least in the corner of tumblr i was on, there were lots of posts circulating that included the full story, the nuances, and all of the transmisogyny involved in the harassment campaign, wrongful flagging of posts, etc. that led up to hammercar. so all is not lost and id say plenty of people got the full story and not just the simplified narrative. however you bring up a good point in that the people who were harassing predstrogen in the first place got to hide behind the hammercar meltdown since it got more circulation than the rest of the inciting events besides maybe the wrongfully nsfw flagged selfies. i think cohost is better prepared to talk about it than tumblr and i think it’s a conversation that SHOULD happen instead of brushing it off as “oh this website isn’t ready”
so this isn't a defeatist sentiment nor is it brushing off an important conversation. its actually me expressing a lot of frustration very vaguely bc i sincerely do not trust that many people, on this and pretty much any other platform, are prepared for a serious conversation about Who was doing the harassment and Why.
i have already seen my fair share of barely-couched vagueposting from people tired of "the discourse", whinging in bad faith about how all the "infighting" is bad and we should all Just Support Each Other. which is a very nice little platitude until we have to have the difficult conversation that, in fact, it was largely the tme Trans Unity crowd who was responsible for this last great Tumblr Transmisogyny Vortex.
literally i would have the conversation if i wasn't frankly quite afraid of drawing the ire of people who are already responsible for me having to delete years of my own history from the internet - lest we forget that a Lot of other women got scooped up in this mess, myself included.
like, there are already bad actors making cohost pages Exclusively to start arguments and Just Ask Questions at anyone who attempts to talk about this seriously - go look at one of the additions to this post!
i am purposefully vague here because this wasn't meant to Do Severals, it was me venting in what i (pretty reasonably, i think) perceived as a somewhat hostile or at least not entirely safe environment. i would really prefer if my inbox here wasn't completely flooded with nightmares too.

I was trying to share just a tiny bit of optimism that there are at least some people ready and willing to have the conversation, I had no idea that people have been signing up for cohost accounts just to start nasty shit. I cant look through the rechosts/additions to the post like we could on tumblr but myself and I believe many others WILL report transmisogyny and harassment of trans women on sight. genuinely im shocked that its starting to seep in bc the community of this website seemed like the kind of place where transmisogyny would not fly. of course youve now told me otherwise and I am not in any way trying to talk over or deny your lived experiences
I have a few questions about exactly what went down on tumblr and what’s happening re: transmisogyny on cohost now but I won’t burden you with further engaging in this conversation if you’re unwilling, I’ll find other people to ask
also, please take care of yourself? if you deem this website somewhere that is hostile or not a safe environment for you it sounds very self-defeating to stick around or share your vulnerable thoughts to said hostile space. you dont owe cohost your time, ESPECIALLY not if its hurting you.
I genuinely hope that you’ve found people on here that are fully respectful and supportive of you and that its not all bad. you have my support and you bet i am going to be keeping my eyes peeled for any transmisogyny bullshit and reporting it because it would be unacceptable for that to become the prevailing narrative on this site
After some searching I found some of the arguments/debates/ruffled feathers that were spawned from peoples responses to this post and I just wanna say that you do NOT have to continue to reply to me if you feel as though it is not a good use of your time and energy. You do not owe me anything
