Disclaimer: like with my earlier savoury attempts, I literally winged this from start to finish. There's probably a far better way to do this, but I lucked on something tasty that works.
Dough: Make about 750g white dough. I used my Panasonic bread maker's default white dough:
- 2tsp yeast
- 475g plain flour
- 2tsp salt
- 45g butter
- 1¾ Tbsp sugar
- 300mL water
My bread maker handles the rest on menu 16, which takes 2.5 hours.
Prepare the sauce when there's 5-10 minutes left on the dough. Preheat the oven to 180°C
Sauce: (I literally just winged this part)
- 100g butter
- 120g brown sugar
- Probably like 1g cinnamon
- Zap in the microwave for like a minute in 10-30 second increments, stirring in between.
Cut the dough into smallish pieces (up to you tbh, my pieces were like 2" before cooking)
Then toss the dough pieces (a few at a time) in the sauce, and lay them in a wide, shallow dish. Don't need to grease the tin BC the sauce is basically 50% butter. There was a bit of excess sauce for me, so I poured it over the top of the dough in the tray.
Cook for 20-30 minutes (tops should be golden), then either let it cool, or use a fork to serve it hot over some ice-cream
Serves like 6-16 people probably (there's 3 of us and we only just made it though half)
When I ate this, I proclaimed:
Main downside I've identified so far: If you let it cool, the sauce will go solid in the dish and make it near impossible to get the last pieces out.
