are you into rust, python, javascript, or css? want to work on the software that brings # css crimes to life?

servo is a web browser engine written in rust. if you’ve used firefox any time in the last half decade, you’ve used parts of servo!

outreachy is a three-month paid (7000 USD) remote internship program that runs twice a year, with a special focus on open source software. servo will have two interns in this round, so why not get paid to work on a browser?

Only people who are looking to get hacked or are brain dead use flingle. It takes 0 minutes to do a google search to figure out what the better replacement is. do your homework before asking here.

i don't really know much about astrophotography, but it's not like the moon was trying to hide tonight.

edit: just a casual look around the webs, and i see there is a lot of material on focusing on astronomical objects. there are so many things i could have done before just wandering out in my underwear at three in the morning with a tripod and a dream.

I quit my job as a "semiconductor validation tester" back in April 2023. I've lasted this long without new work, but I'm going to need something very soon. Here's my portfolio.

If you, or somebody you know, is looking for somebody with these skills:

  • Writing, both fiction and non fiction, various genres, over 20 years. Have always wanted to write for a video game but otherwise have experience writing for YouTube videos, blog posts, genre fiction, historical profiles, and wikis. Maybe you're an indie game dev who wants someone to give your script a once-over? Maybe you need a script, period? I'm good for a lot of that. My portfolio has examples of my non-fiction work, but also, my #writing tag here on Cohost is full of good examples of my fiction.
  • Graphics, graphic design, drawing, video game assets, Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, PaintDotNet, Krita, ArtRage Studio, MacPaint, KidPix, TheDRAW. Some examples in the aforementioned portfolio, but I can offer more if you have something specific in mind. If you're looking for a retro approach, I can do that. I've been doing graphics for the Doom engine since 2002 so I have a pretty good idea of what the constraints are and what can be done with them. I've done some retro-style artwork on commission, a lot of which can be found in my drawings tag.
  • Video editing, Adobe Premiere or KDenLive. Have a look through my YouTube channel, or this selection of videos in my portfolio.
  • Personal tech support. I have never done this professionally, but I have done tech help in spare time for years, I am quite good at researching solutions and writing up little bite sized guides to help those less technically inclined. I'm most comfortable doing this in a live chat medium, or message board posts, and I'd happily be your IT Services guy if you're part of a small group.
  • Community management. Used to moderate a combination message board and (eventually) discord server, between 2008 and the beginning of 2023. I can be a community presence or I can just do the clerical stuff in the background.

If you or somebody you know has paying work in any of the above categories, leave me a comment here with a way to get in touch with you. I live in the US and would prefer remote work if possible.

If you're not able to give me a job, but still want to try to support me:

  • I am still open for commissions and haven't received any for some time.
  • Or you can leave me a tip to keep a safety-net under me.
  • If you are unable to do either of those (understandable!) I'd appreciate at least sharing/signal-boosting this post; as much as I appreciate the Likes I've gotten, they don't really do anything here 😟
