Watership Down gave me nightmares after my well-meaning parents allowed me(4) and my sister(6) to watch it. This was back in the day our local public library would lend out home-recorded VHS tapes, hopefully with commercials removed. It was genuinely quite upsetting, and I mentally filed it away as one does with childhood nightmare fuel, then revisited it 30 years later. "Surely it isn't as bad as I remember." Readers, it was worse.
Even watching it as an adult for the first time I had some mild nightmares so I can't imagine watching this as a kid
