PDF, .odt, .doc, .txt, something else?
I use LibreOffice and it saves natively in .odt, and various text and MS Word formats. I'm going to see if I can pick up something that'll let me generate a pdf.
What about ebook formats?

Epub is a common standard for ebooks, i like it better than pdf
and while im thinking about it, calibre should be able to help you make/convert ebook files like these, if you wanted a specific program reccomendation. I think its more geared towards ebook reading than writing, but it's worth a shot to see if it works for you
I just realized that if I upload something to gdocs and do the formatting there I can download it right back in .pdf or .epub
Seconding epub. It can be put on any reader and works better with most features on a reader than a PDF.
That said I prefer a PDF if I'm not reading on an e-reader so from my end putting it out on PDF and Epub covers most bases.
