when writing in this game hits, it hits me square in the chest. beautiful, warm, worrying, fond and aching stuff. my alt is currently languishing in the single number one worst part of the game (the empress's court) and I gotta say: Firmament vindicates the (very early) rough bits not just in an "it was worth pushing through it" sense but truly that the bad/frustrating parts enrich what's good. it matters that my character has suffered, truly suffered, has seen and heard so much, before she could experience this. if pre-railroad FL had me telling my friends "despite the flaws there are real gems in here" and parabola/railroad FL had me saying "once you get past Making Your Name it's just plain good", then Firmament has me removing caveats entirely. I want all my friends to play Fallen London. I wanna talk about this shit with all of them. with all of you
while I'm here and have the opportunity I need you all to know: out of all the reasons that I'm sorry to see cohost go, the Fallen London contingent on here ranks really high on the list. I don't reddit or tumblr or join dedicated game discords so I went a long time without seeing people talk about this series regularly. y'all were a delight. I may not have spoken to all of you but I checked in on the tab pretty frequently and loved to see all your drawings and fic about your little guys and your awful little adventures. I hope you keep at it, all of it, even if you go somewhere I won't see it. This was just plain good culture and I'll miss you all. I'm not leaving just yet but I wanna say it preemptively:
