Sometimes I wonder about the logistics of trying to crowdfund a computer that wasn't an obsolete toaster back when Obama was still in office.

The thing is:

  1. it's not, strictly speaking, a necessity? My laptop freezes roughly every twenty minutes, but that's usually enough time to check the sites I use it for instead of my phone? And if I'm just using it for music, whatever, I can (usually) stand a few minutes of silence. The biggest issue is that I can't use any writing program more advanced than notepad, and even that is laggy as hell (let alone any games, but that's why I have consoles). It's inconvenient, but I've lived so far. I know people who need stuff more - hell, there's more "important" stuff that I need more!

  2. my specific blend of trauma and brainworms mean that getting any sort of gift sends me into a self-hate spiral. This is probably the biggest thing — the plus side to having a birthday at the end of June is that I always had half the year to mentally prep for that, and the other half to prep for Christmas. My self-worth is at a point where I feel guilty if a friend offers to grab dinner because I paid the last time, the mere thought of people chipping in to help me afford something that would cost hundreds is just. Legitimately terrifying.
