fuck the king, long live the republic, etc.

but it IS a day off so guess i'll go to the house in a bit.

unfortunately i'm slightly worried about some of the false wall panels containing asbestos. so i've decided i want to get an inventory done after all. might push back the schedule by several months, depending how long it takes to get an appointment, and what they find.

(the panels are not in great shape so they might have to go entirely even if they're not asbestos)

today though, i think i'm gonna attempt to 1) do/redo a bunch of caulking in the kitchen and windows, and 2) open up a bit of the second story floor to see what's going on in there (will need to open it up to do wiring).

Thinking back to the multiple repairmen when we first got our house who informed us, with the wisdom of the ages, that there's not asbestos behind that panel if you don't open it.

Liability and also, it's not radium; as long as you leave it alone and sealed up it's not going to hurt you, it's once you disturb it that it becomes a problem. Like the layer of lead paint under the more modern coat the geniuses next door freaked out about and decided to attack with a sander.

yeah the problem here is i want to redo most of the wiring which requires me to, at the very least, remove the panels to run conduit, cut holes in them for outlets, etc.

and it's kinda starting to look like the false walls might have been built shitty and i'd be better off replacing them with regular dry wall?
