continuing my previous thread:

the Bar (the workpiece i've been machining) on a rotary table in the mill vise, once again

i rounded off the bar the rest of the way. this plastic fixture has been doing pretty well, this seems like a viable tactic to tackle similar future endeavours.

the Bar has been removed from its rotary prison, and now features a counterbore

here i have added a counterbore around the hole in the middle β€” a larger hole that transitions into the pre-existing hole with a step.

the Bar lying on my workbench on its side, a conical plastic knob protruding from it a close-up shot of the back of this arrangement, showing a nut sitting in the counterbore

and here's the purpose of the counterbore: it lets the nut that retains the knob sit inside of the handle, where it won't catch on stuff.

the picture from the header β€” i've mounted the handle and knob on the workmate

and here it is (again), with a cross hole drilled through it, and mounted on the lead screw of the workmate. i'm nearly there!

but first, i'll have to get the other handle to the same point. because if i want to round off the other end of the bar, i'll have to mill down my fixture to fit the smaller hole on that side β€” which means i need to do everything that requires it to fit the bigger hole first.

p.s. let me know how you feel about this post format. i'll add a link to the next installment at the end here once there is one. it's a bit more effort to write it all at once rather than as i go, but i think i can manage
