is Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho / A Place Further than the Universe. it's good -- i really like the writing so far.
if i had to explain the kind of anime i like in a nutshell, my first thought would be like... mundane stuff? realistic settings, mostly? detailed, methodical looks at boring stuff?
but i think what unites all the shows i like the most (Shiroi Suna no Aquatope, Skip and Loafer, Sakura Quest, Bocchi the Rock, Super Cub...) is that they're about like... the characters being changed by how they relate to other people?
that was kind of my problem with K-On! (or Do It Yourself!!) in a nutshell, too -- no one changes or learns anything. or at least not in any way that feels earned. everything's just static.
anyway, so far this show seems to get this stuff very right. none of the plot is imposed from outside of the characters -- it's their own separate intrinsic motivations that bring them together in the first place, but it's also their own separate flaws that cause the conflict they have to overcome (and through which they hopefully grow as people). it's all just very emotionally satisfying so far i guess?
this is probably baby shit to people who think about writing more than i do, but a lot of anime still kinda seems to get it wrong, so. it feels like it's worth pointing out, i guess?
