i find the idea amusing that welding shops just have a giant fucking granite slab big enough to be used as a brick for a modern pyramid that they use as just a level reference surface

warc
@warc

that's any half-decent fabrication shop!
and they're EXPESNIVE to get resurfaced if you wear them down!!!!!
we use granite because it doesnt tend to warp or change shape much (HOPEFULLY)!!!
but those things are FLAT to within just a few millionths of an inch per foot, usually.

level surfaces are super important! they make sure your work is good!

but also its funny that it doesnt matter if the object is a 2 inch plate or a 10 foot frame. all will be judged by the slab.

the head from your shitty lawn mower that you just decked by eye on the shittiest mill with a pretty dull fly cutter????

this one's scraped cast iron. haven't used it that much but it is nice for doing layout work. mostly just bought it because they're rarely in stock at the tool import place so i decided to jump on it when they were. plan to use it more once i have a workshop at the new place (ETA some time next year).

took it out because i wanted to see if it was still in good shape. seems fine. it always had a tiny bit of corrosion (i mean, it was like 100 bucks) but it'll be fine for my purposes
