well, that was always kind of the appeal to me, manufacturing stuff i designed myself. i'm not against doing computer stuff, mind you β€” i wrote a whole openscad script for generating proper involute gears for 3d printing, ages ago, for example β€” but i have access to a 3d printer if i really need it, and at home i like doing more manual stuff more

i wanted to add opengraph support to my personal website but some of the eleventy plugins were broken and the ones that weren't were confusing1. also, at some point this weekend, i have to find a moment where the house is quiet and sit down at my desk and record a meow on my nice microphone, because i would like my website to meow when you click on the kity.

  1. in the past, when you wanted to dynamically generate images of what a website looks like, it would basically run an entire web browser without a window and have it generate what the webpage looks like into an image file. they still have this, but the plugin that does this for eleventy is broken at the moment on apple silicon machines. now, they have technology that will take the html and css and convert it into an svg file and then convert THAT into an image without needing to run an entire web browser, but when you do this, you need to feed it font files directly if you have any text on the page and i was struggling to figure out how to get my webfont files from google fonts dynamically because i'm stubborn and refused to do it the easy way.

oof yeah i should work on my website. by which i mean, get the little arm box that it sits on into a state where i'm happy to leave it running in my bedroom 24/7 (replace the physical disks with an SSD, ditch the fan or run it slower, then reinstall shit as needed)

also, more websites should meow imo

more websites should meow!!! i run my website on netlify right now, which for me is infinitely easier to reason about than having to have a publicly accessible nginx server running out of my home (also the fact that it's free is nice)

ah yeah my urge to do nothing is very strong as well. 'tis the season, really. but i have some stuff i wanna work towards before spring rolls back around and i'll be spending most of my spare time gardening again.

i tried learning Rust a little bit but it's just too intimidating for me tbh. i think i'm sticking to Personal Home Page, C#, and C for now
