looked up some gyoza recipes on a whim and they all mention ใซใ‚‰ nira. so i look up what that is... turns out it's garlic chives (Allium tuberosum), which i just happened to order seeds for yesterday!

i just bought them on a whim because i saw them on the seed retailer website and thought chives that taste like garlic sound good... but i guess i know what i'm making once i grow some

making nikujaga (japanese beef and potato stew) with some cucumber/wakame sunomono (vinegar dressed salad) as a side

came out pretty alright. meat could have cooked a bit shorter i think (i browned it a bit before throwing the other stuff in, should have done less of that i think but i got distracted). a bit more of the starch came out of the potatoes than i'd have liked, too.

it's still weird to me that japanese people put sugar in their omelettes but i guess i will try it

had the heat up too high, and i added too much of the egg mixture at once. so it browned while cooking.

also the bowl of egg fell over (i left the fork i used to mix it in there because i'm an idiot).

don't think i like the sugar. fried egg dishes are supposed to be savoury, to me. i don't like sweet french toast either
