It's a family of games quite similar to Spades, but the Roman numeral cards serve as trumps, and some cards are worth extra points (normally court cards, the Fool, the Magician and the World).
If, like me, you aren't familiar with trick-taking, it is an opaque and infuriating game. Kind of like just learning mahjong, actually. One of the first things you learn is to remember which players have finished a suit, as it's otherwise an endless font of bad moves.
