Why did I come here of all places to get away from Twitter? Honestly, while I can talk a big game about it matching what I personally want out of a social media place all I want, and that did genuinely factor into it, in the specific moment it was mostly just that people were talking about this place as a potential place to go at the time. Which isn't to say there aren't reasons I haven't gone somewhere else instead (or in addition to here). Mastodon has the whole issue of not knowing where to go, along with their somewhat infamous culture around content warnings that I honestly can't imagine developing without bad actors deliberately shaping it. Bluesky has the problem of being Jack Dorsey's place, and he still thinks his crackpot idea of blockchain-powered free speech is even remotely feasible so I'm not expecting it to have much of a future. Threads is excessively focused on algorithmic recommendations over any sort of organic timeline, and it's also a Facebook thing so I'm obligated to hate it on principle. And does anyone even fucking remember Hive at this point?
Overall, though, it's also important to note that I've generally liked being here more than any other social media I've seen. And that counts for a lot
