Is this just my "has only seen Boss Baby" moment or does Twin Peaks: The Return have some marked similarities to Kafka on the Shore, which I just read and really loved, not having read any other Murakami. Beyond the obvious (magic realism, spirit realms, etc), KotS' Nakata plotline reeeally feels very similar to the Dougie plotline in Twin Peaks, in the sense of a character losing most mental function and fulfilling a purpose, seemingly guided from the start by an unknown force/fate.
I can 100% believe that Murakami took some influence from Twin Peaks' original run but I've not heard of Lynch referring to Murakami's work. Just an interesting connection I noticed.
