Yes, I still use the same hard disk platter as a drink coaster. But I need more ISA cards in my collection.

Cohost isn't letting me upload images for some reason, so here's the relevant Fediverse thread for now: https://mastodon.social/deck/@cr1901/111675866381454492

Seriously. I probably don't test enough (last time I tested, according to photos I snapshotted, was May 17th of this year). The RAM and hard disk on my IBM 5150 seems to starting to show errors. On the other hand, everything on my IBM PC AT seems to be just fine.

Mike Brutman, the creator of mTCP (a TCP/IP stack for DOS) keeps an alternate version on his website on an alternate server. It just reached 2500 hours of continuous uptime.

Okay, over 100 days without a crash/power cycle. Why is that cool? B/c the webserver is:

  • Is an IBM PCJr, with a 4.77 MHz V20 CPU, connected to the Internet proper.
  • Has 736kB of RAM.
  • Running his own TCP/IP stack.
  • Running in MS-DOS!! Without crashing!! Continuously!! For 100 days!!

Today, it's getting a Hug of Death thanks to the the aforementioned article, and Mike has decided to livestream its DDOS :D!

You can watch the livestream here.
You can visit the website that the server hosts here.
