Was about to share my end of the year list here since it just went up, but I remembered I haven't been sharing my work here as much as I should. Might as well fix that now.
Here's some of the work I'm pretty happy with from the past year. (Links under the cut.)
Back in January, I wrote about Museum of Mechanics: Lockpicking, a fantastic piece of archival for a very specific part of games history.
In March, I reviewed Tunic and enjoyed the ways it encouraged communal play to solve its many mysteries. Also did a letter series with a friend on Elden Ring, as is tradition when we play a new From Software game.
In May, I took a look at Loot River, a game that pitched itself as Dark Souls meets Tetris. A bizarre pitch, but it worked well, actually! Despite the weird glitch that greatly reduced the loot pool I encountered.
In July, I reviewed DNF Duel. Writing about fighting games is always a challenge because of how mechanically dense a genre it is, but I think I did all right?
In September, I looked at Thymesia and how its choice to make a very clear, shamelessly Souls-influenced game without a stamina meter was ultimately a good one.
In October, I reviewed Betrayal At Club Low, which is very good, very funny game.
And lastly, I wrote a couple of blurbs for the site-wide game of the year post we did this year.
