i hope in the future itch.io indie games turn into a lot of multiplayer arthouse experiments

we need something like a new gamespy because one thing i miss about the old steam server browser was seeing how many cool, weird games people were actively playing FOR YEARS.

boot it up to look at counter strike.. see some obscure half life mod ive NEVER heard of with 30 people in it. I want that.. but for weird arthouse indie games that happen to be multiplayer. like a multiplayer webring.

in fact, prior to this website going down, i will mention one of my favorite indie game experiments.. it was called something like Composition #33? I don't remember. It was on blogspot, RPS linked it.

You were on a foggy platform with infinite telephone booths, they'd ring randomly. you'd pick them up, it'd stop ringing.

pretty cool scripted event, a little dreamlike, nothing special right? except at the time, those rings were all real players and so anyone who picked up a silent phone would ring someone else's game anonymously.

that really stuck with me for so many years. more of THAT
