one of the cool things over near where we grew up are the various small lakes found here and there within forests. sometimes they peek out from a forest with barely any transition, weathered rock and dirt the only way down into the water. some of them have been made into accessible swimming areas, small fields of grassland and crafted patches of sand to lead into the water. always with the forest enveloping around, close enough that the cover of pines is but a moment or two away.
we had a thought that one day we would love to invite along as many fellow nonhumans to one of these lakes as possible. especially if they remain in good health long enough for everyone to find ways to be their preferred selves.
space to play from open grass to flittering between the trunks and brambles of the forest floor. the possibility of taking a swim in fresh water, perhaps learn how your body reacts to being partially or completely submerged with friends nearby. a place for those who need a bit of quiet away from the party. a plethora of experiences. appropriate food, snacks, and drinks for everyone. the chance to celebrate being yourself among other creatures of all shapes and sizes, who all know just as well how that euphoria tastes.
... perhaps one happy day in the future, we will be able to do something like this.
