I took a day off*, and now I'm ready to get started making my character for Ironsworn: Starforged.
*I still agonized over potential Paths for a bit.
When I'm playing TTRPGs in groups I usually have an easy time making characters. But making a character for a solo game is so much more pressure! I'm basically flagging interests and setting the shape of this story all by myself! Ahh!
I'd better roll on the character inspiration table to calm me down.
Character Inspiration Roll: 70 - Prophet
OK yeah, this is the part where Starforged campaign prep can really start to feel like homework. I thought about skipping sector prep and jumping right into the first quest, but since Adne is a Navigator it would seem to be valuable to know where they will be navigating to. And I'm really trying to fully meet Starforged on its own terms, so... let's go!
Oh, this map was made with Stargazer, by the way! It's a really cool online character/campaign keeper for Ironsworn: Starforged.
Starting Region: Outlands
Scattered settlements surrounded by uncharted and perilous navigational paths.
Rather than run through the steps individually, let me just tell you a little about the sector of Distinguished Crest. Silvana Station is its largest settlement and essentially a truck stop/fulfillment center. The station is built into a hollowed-out asteroid caught in an irregular orbit around the planet Outlook, by Selfra (that's the whole name). Silvana Station is home to my starting connection Trip Ambly, Associate Vice President of Marketing for Ambition Colony.
Trip has a difficult job. Ambition stands about 100 million miles below him on the icy, toxic surface of Outlook. It is an expensive bungling of a settlement project that has attracted thousands of engineering, construction, and support workers and about 30 permanent settlers. Trip needs to grow that number of settlers at least tenfold to meet his "fairly modest" Q2 objectives and key results (OKRs).
The "Growth and Challenges" portion of Trip's performance self-report will also reference Wreck, another settlement built within a repurposed ship in the sector. I don't know many other details within it yet, but I do know its two settlement-wide interests are "raiding" and "agriculture." The raiding bothers Trip more than the agriculture.
Just one more step before it's time for the Adne and Buzzard show! Last up, we'll create our inciting incident and ensuing vow!
