tonight i spent 4 hours playing with a 6 DOF flight sim prototype and i have discovered three things:
-
flying at 170 km/h is fun but if i reduce the speed to 25% then i will reduce the level size by 94%, which means less empty space to fill with stuff
-
i gotta figure out the camera and how not to make myself motion sick;
-
getting the flyer to auto-roll to keep everything level with the horizon requires way more thought (and my failures are certainly a huge contributor to aforementioned motion sick—quaternion math gets fucky really quickly, and then suddenly youre upside-down, spinning, and you can no longer turn manually)
a fourth thing i realized, while typing up this post:
i considered what it *is* that i am making, what all of these disparate pieces will form as an idealized whole. and i realized...im making sonic adventure 2
