This is a game concept I have been playing around with for a while. I actually worked on this before Touhou Library Survivors but I got cold feet about it. And truth be told I'm getting some chilly toes again! So I thought writing about it might help me work through some of that.

Core Loop. The player has a character on a coloured grid and can draw a path along one colour. Once locked the character will follow that path and swing at enemies they pass. The character can also exit the arena through the doors at the top into other room types - providing key enemies are defeated first (and you can do it all in the same path if you're cool).

While drawing the path the results are also previewed so the player knows how much damage they're dishing out and who is going to be defeated. This also live updates the striped "danger" tiles which show somewhere unsafe to stand.

There are also ✨ roguelite elements ✨ and as mentioned before the player can navigate off the board into rooms. Rewards are currently consumeable abilities like teleporting or changing tile colours. And passive items with criterias like running along 8 yellow tiles activates a special attack.

Progress. I've attached some experiments and then a bit of a jump to the current form. I found isometric looks cool, but sometimes I lost track of what tiles connects to what and it's always a bit fiddily with a controller.

Originally the plan was to have borders or skeumorphism for the containers on the sides, and that is no longer the case. Which is why the trees currently kind of give up at a certain point. But generally everything here is placeholder anyway! Yes, that is the bear from fishing girl.

Anyway, I don't want to write a GDD in this post, but I'll start sharing more as I go!
