capcom arcade 2nd stadium, a collection of emulated capcom arcade games, has online leaderboards for every game. in addition to the standard high score leaderboards, there are extra leaderboards for playing the game on very hard mode, trying to clear it as fast as possible and so on.

i was looking at the leaderboards for the fantastic shmup gun.smoke and i noticed there's one that forces you to play the game in fast forward. turbo modes are common in arcade games, but capcom arcade 2nd stadium's turbo mode cranks the game to a borderline unplayable speed. to make matters worse, you're not allowed to even submit a score to the turbo leaderboard unless you get around 50,000 points, which is roughly the equivalent of making it to stage 2.

as a result of this, gun.smoke's fast forward leaderboard was literally empty. no one was dumb enough to try and learn how to play through an entire stage and boss fight at double speed. until now.

so in addition to being the only steam curator to talk about gun.smoke, i'm now the only person on its extremely silly turbo mode leaderboard. i'm rapidly running out of empty online gun.smoke lists to add myself to...

i'm mostly just good at gun.smoke! the only cave game i've ever 1cc'd is deathsmiles, but something about gun.smoke's dynamic unpredictable enemies and beat em up style boss encounter designs made me fall in love with it and want to put the time into learning it. it almost feels like it has more in common with final fight or ghosts n goblins than it does with other shooting games.
