This website has...

  • No timeline algorithm
  • No likable comments
  • No notifications for liked/rechosted rechosts
  • No follower/following lists displayed

All of these things really run against the grain of what the typical social media site wants to be, which is a thing that gets Good Numbers For Influencers to justify its existence. Cohost strikes me as the type of site that will inevitably move forward the concept of what a social media site really needs to do to be successful, and how to avoid the adverse incentives that produce the mostly-toxic clout-chasing metagame. I like being here because there's no pressure to have a hot take, or throw in my piece on some discourse, or be the first to make the obvious joke, all so I can spend the rest of the day getting a couple notifications every hour. It's really nice to feel like I'm just a person in this space.
