i tried to write another happy future thing but doing the first step of research made me murderous. we already have everything everyone needs! food! safe energy! medicine! housing! literally the only problem is people prevent sharing using laws, corporations, states, and other profane and inhuman things. WHY DOESNT EVERYBODY GET MAD? why does anyone but the true believers tolerate any of this? concentrating resources to this degree requires a thirst for atrocity. it is not possible otherwise!
I don't know how anyone can see even the smallest part of the state of things, and not get furious. There should be riots everywhere, every single day. But somehow, I seem to be mostly surrounded by people who like, don't care. Or if they do care, they direct their ire at the poor who are suffering.
I can not measure the disgust and rage I feel at the way everything is designed to be as bad as possible, yet it's all somehow still getting even worse
Follow up here, and also @MachineLordZero left something useful in the comments
Which is: a powerful fraction of the human population have already decided that global catastrophe is inevitable and even desirable, a necessary stage of human development. The Christians have a religious justification: Jesus is coming back and God's going to wipe the slate clean. The "techno-optimists" have a secular justification, which however verges upon a religious belief: somehow all humanity's problems will be solved out in space, and so it's okay to let Earth go to shit because Elon Musk will reboot humanity as a Martian colony.
Everything getting worse, for both the Christians and the techlords, just proves that they're right about everything: only a select few, blessed with salvation or with "superior intelligence" (it works out to about the same thing in practice), deserve to survive and escape Earth, flying away to a glorious new life either with Jesus or in the offworld colonies. The rest of us can eat shit and die if we're not willing to toil on behalf of these glittery future prospects, the only salvation for humanity.
That's what we face. How anyone is supposed to fight such a thing, I don't know. Christian cults obsessed with the End Times have endured despite endless humiliation from false promises and failed predictions. People really want to believe in that sort of miracle; they want to feel like the privileged few survivors aboard a modern-day Noah's Ark, and they think the rewards will be virtually infinite, whether they're coming from Jesus or from a technological saviour.
