Last Wednesday, I saw a job posting that I wanted to apply for, but I didn't have a cover letter ready, so I put it off figuring I'd write the letter and apply on the weekend. The posting had only gone up that day, so I should have plenty of time, right? WRONG! When I went to apply, they were no longer taking applications. (Luckily I checked before taking the time to write the letter.) Besides obviously blaming myself for screwing this up, I also blame cover letters. So when I saw another job posting, I felt I'd learned my lesson and applied immediately without a cover letter. Nobody reads them anyway, right? At least, whenever I've been in an interview and mentioned something from my cover letter, nobody knew what I was talking about. So this will be an experiment. We'll see if I made the right choice (my guess: no).
