The thing that always makes me stop playing a round of Dwarf Fortress is when the caravan shows up. I just don't want to deal with it. Having to haul all my stuff to the trading depot, then go through deciding what to sell... it's boring.
I live in Portland and sometimes I make video games if I can find somebody who will pay me to do it.

Honestly, that really is one of the most boring parts of it. Also having to keep track of what was the agreement I made with who a year ago. I always produce a lot of what they ask for but then I forget WHO asked for it and end up not selling all the shit.
At the end of the day I can just ignore the wagons =P
I make stockpiles of craft goods for export somewhat near the trade depot and then sell the stuff by the binful. Keeps me from having to go through things one by one unless I'm desperate.
