Holidays where they "close the office" and you get a free day off almost always fall on a Monday or Friday, hell I'm pretty sure they are exclusively those. As I've grown older I've found that weekends no longer provide enough time to "catch up" on the many tasks I have unless there's a 3 day weekend, then I feel like I have time to clean stuff I haven't gotten around to, or literally burn a whole day on something I've put off for months (like this weekend, when I replaced my GPU and CPU Cooling) because it's like "oh, I can burn a day, it's fine". The extra day allows me to actually 1) get stuff done and 2) relax because I feel like I "got enough done" to justify relaxing.
I have a theory that 3 Day Weekends are strategically spaced out so that when one comes along it's just enough of a relief to allow you to actually "relax" because if we never got one everyone would start forming unions and shit. Nobody takes time off, if you're lucky you have 10 days of PTO a year, which you have to save for sick days. The 3 Day Weekend is the only actual respite you have from the grind. Every time I have one I think of how much happier I'd be if we had 4 day work weeks.
